Three Belizean officials participate in ITC-ILO online course on innovative approaches to promoting transitions towards formality
Course provides knowledge sharing of global best practices with an emphasis on ILO’s decent work strategies.

Participant to ITC-ILO online course on formality
As part of the ILO’s ongoing efforts to strengthen regional labour markets, three policymakers from Belize recently benefited from an International Training Centre of the ILO (ITC-ILO) course that improved their understanding of increasing formalization for the benefit of workers and enterprises.
The three-week course 'Innovative Approaches to Promoting Transitions Towards Formality' was delivered via distance learning through the ITC-ILO eCampus platform over a period of three weeks, from 20 November to 8 December 2023. The first two weeks of the course included two self-paced modules while the third week included three online webinars.
The participants from Belize included Monique Usher, Manager at the Small Business Development Centre Belize, BELTRAIDE; Annia Daniele Mejia, Statistician II at the Statistical Institute of Belize (SIB); and Sheyvoughn Leandra Ariel S. Jones, Membership Program Officer at the Belize Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BCCI).
“The three learners from Belize gained access to a significant knowledge exchange of best practices and policies from around the world to enhance their understanding of the transition to formality with an emphasis on ILO’s decent work strategies,” said Pamela Bradley, ILO National Project Coordinator in Belize.
“The 'Innovative Approaches to Promoting Transitions Towards Formality' course provided invaluable global insights. As a participant from Belize, it allowed me to share BELTRAIDE’s first hand experiences in supporting MSMEs formalization process. Learning expertise from facilitators and peers was inspiring and enriching, equipping us with practical tools for gender-focused formalization efforts. I thank BELTRAIDE and the ILO for granting me this unique learning opportunity,” said Monique Usher.
Upon completion of the course the ITC-ILO will issue digital certificates to the officials and provided that all required activities were completed, namely active participation during webinars and completion of the self-paced learning modules provided on the eCampus platform.
