Thailand ratifies the Tripartite Consultation (International Labour Standards) Convention (No. 144)
Thailand becomes the 158th country in the world to ratify the Convention No. 144, a governance Convention.

GENEVA (ILO News) - On 12 June 2024, Thailand deposited the instrument of ratification of the Tripartite Consultation (International Labour Standards) Convention, 1976 (No. 144). By depositing the instrument of ratification, Thailand becomes the 158th country in the world, to ratify the Convention No. 144, a governance Convention.
Convention No. 144, accompanied by Recommendation No. 152, requires effective prior tripartite consultations concerning the development, adoption and supervision of international labour standards governing all aspects of the world of work.
During the ceremony held at the ILO headquarters in Geneva, the Minister of Labour, Mr. Phiphat Ratchakitprakarn, stated: “The ratification of Convention No.144 highlights Thailand's commitment to promoting social dialogue and tripartite consultation on subjects related to international labour standards. It aims to promote constructive relationships and dialogue among employers, workers, and the government to pursue social justice and decent work for all in Thailand.”
Upon receiving the instrument of ratification, ILO Director-General, Gilbert F. Houngbo, stated: “The ILO sincerely congratulates Thailand for this important step and is thankful for the trust placed in social dialogue with representative membership-based organization of employers and workers. The ILO stands ready to assist Thailand to further strengthen social dialogue based on the standards in Convention No. 144.”
The Convention will enter into force for Thailand 12 June 2025, one year after its ratification. To date, Thailand has ratified 19 ILO Conventions and one Protocol, with 17 of them currently in force. For additional details, please refer to NORMLEX.
