Tanzania to develop the Decent Work Country Programme III
The tripartite dialogue for the development of Tanzania’s third generation of Decent Work Country Program (DWCP, 2016-2020) will focus on targeted priorities in line with sustainable development goals.
Dar es Salaam (ILO News) – The tripartite national consultative meeting aimed at reviewing Tanzania’s current Decent Work Country Programme (DWCP) and kick-starting the formulation of the 2016-2020 process, will be held in Dar es Salaam from 19 to 20 September 2016.
The meeting organized by the ILO in collaboration with the Prime Minister’s Office, Ministry of Labour, Employment, Youth and the Disabled (PMO-LEYD) will focus on the findings of the Country Programme Review (CPR) and how they will factor into identifying new priority areas in which to address decent work deficits, and in so doing harmonizing the ILO and its constituents’ collaborative effort with the National Development Frameworks, Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), the United Nations Development Assistance Plan (UNDAP II) and the interrelationships that exist between these global, regional and country level frameworks.
Some 50 plus representatives from relevant government Ministries and institutions, workers’ and employers’ organizations and other development stakeholders from the mainland and Zanzibar will attend the meeting.
The constituents will review progress and approaches being taken to implement the currently-ending country programme, assess the relevance of ILO’s country-level work and consider the strategic alignment of ILO’s, and our constituents’ work with national priorities, which are also supported by the UN and other stakeholders.
The current DWCP ran from 2013 - 2016, aiming at promoting decent work as a key component of national development strategies, and also in organising ILO knowledge, instruments, advocacy and cooperation at the service of the tripartite constituents.
To date, Tanzania has implemented two DWCPs which had four priorities namely - extending social protection coverage for all, promoting the creation of productive employment, improving compliance with labour standards and rights at work and strengthening social dialogue mechanisms at national and sectoral levels.
