Tajikistan's population reached eight million, the privately-owned Tajik news agency Avesta reported on 6 February.
The report said: "The 8 millionth child was born at the maternity hospital No 3 in Dushanbe yesterday".
"The 8 millionth citizen of Tajikistan was born at 0700 [local time, 0200 gmt] on 5 February.
It is expected that the happy parents will receive a key for a one-bedroom flat from the president as a present in near future," the report added.
