Tajikistan approves the list of hazardous work prohibited to children under 18 years old. The relevant decree was adopted by the Tajik government in March and signed by Tajik President Emomali Rakhmon.

Tajikistan approves the list of hazardous work prohibited to children under 18 years old. The relevant decree was adopted by the Tajik government in March and signed by Tajik President Emomali Rakhmon.
Until now Tajikistan applied the 1980 list of industries, professions and jobs with difficult and hazardous working conditions which prohibited the employment of persons under 18 years old. This list did not include informal urban sectors, working in family cotton farms and domestic work and needed improvement.
The new list of hazardous work was developed with technical and financial support of the ILO’s International Programme on the Elimination of Child Labour (ILO-IPEC) in 2012 within the framework of tripartite consultations that brought together Tajikistan’s Ministry of Labour, Migration and Employment of Population, Federation of Independent Trade Unions, Union of Employers and occupational safety and health experts. During this process the Technical Working Group studied possible risks in different sectors of the republic’s economy and the impact these risks exert on children.
“The role of ILO-IPEC in the process of developing this list was vital,” says Emin Sanginov, First Deputy Minister of Labour, Migration and Employment of Population. “Moreover, social partners highlighted ILO-IPEC’s essential contribution to initiating the tripartite consultations.”
