Tajikistan’s trade unions promote Decent Work Programme
On November 15-16 Dushanbe hosted a conference on strengthening the role of Tajikistan’s trade unions in promoting and implementing the Decent Work Programme.

The conference was organized by the ILO Decent Work Technical Support Team and Country Office for Eastern Europe and Central Asia. It brought together heads of member-organizations of the Federation of Independent Trade Unions of Tajikistan.
ILO Moscow was represented by Senior Specialist in Workers’ Activities Sergeyus Glovackas.
The reports were also made by an adviser of the Pan-European Regional Council of the International Trade Union Confederation Anton Leppik and director of Central Asia Office of the Solidarity Centre, a non-profit organization with the American Federation of Labor-Congress of Industrial Organizations, Stanislav Chenyukh.
The chairman of the Federation of Independent Trade Unions of Tajikistan, Murodali Salikhov, focused on the activities of Tajikistan’s trade unions in implementing the Decent Work Programme for 2011-2013.
His deputy Karchi Karimov briefed on trade unions’ efforts to protect informally employed population.
He expressed concern over the growth of informally employed workers in such sectors as trade, construction, agriculture, hotel and restaurant services and non-governmental organizations. The share of informally employed youth aged between 15 to 29 years totals 70 percent.
