Tajik trade unions focus on maternity protection
On November 26, the chairman of the Federation of Independent Trade Union of Tajikistan, Murodali Salikhov, met with ILO expert Denis Rogachev (ILO project “From the crisis towards Decent and Safe Jobs”) and ILO National Project Coordinator Gulchehra Ziyaeva to discuss the situation with maternity protection in the republic and participation of trade unions in promoting maternity protection.

Salihkov noted that fifteen articles of Tajikistan’s Labour Code ensure guarantees for women and persons with family responsibilities. The technical labour inspections and legal advisory bodies of trade unions keep a close watch on the observance of maternity protection laws. The country bans employers to dismiss pregnant women and women with children under three years of age.
Denis Rogachev made a review of maternity protection problems in CIS member-states. He welcomed as positive efforts undertaken by the republic and Tajikistan’s effective maternity protection legislation.
Among participants were also the deputy head of the Federation, Bakhtier Abdullayev, and other trade union activists.
