Tajik agency logs 500 missing migrant workers

Over 500 migrant workers from Tajikistan's northern region of Sughd have officially been announced missing as at today.
They are mainly those who left Tajikistan for Russia and Kazakhstan in search of work.
Bahri Abdurahmonova, head of the public organization Diyor, which is engaged in the search of missing people from Sughd Region, has told Avesta that about 90 people had turned to Diyor to trace their missing relatives since the beginning of the year.
She said most of those who appealed to them were looking for people who left the region in search of work.
"A total of 600 people have so far been registered as missing in the file of the public organization. Among them are also those who went missing during the [1992-97] civil war in the south of Tajikistan. Ten people have been found with the help of Diyor since the beginning of the year," she said.
