Suriname's Decent Work Monitoring Committee concludes successful training in Trinidad and Tobago

ILO Caribbean’s Decent Work Team was joined by the Suriname Decent Work Monitoring Committee for a one-week DWCP Monitoring and Oversight Workshop from 17 – 21 April 2023 at the ILO Caribbean Office. The week’s activities kicked-off with Director, Dennis Zulu’s welcome to the 11-member Surinamese team.

The workshop, which was conducted by the ILO Caribbean Office’s Senior Programme Officer, Ingerlyn Caines-Francis, had a primary focus of understanding the strategic responsibilities of a DWCP monitoring committee through an exploration of the principles of monitoring and the practical application of tools that support both monitoring and oversight. The DWCP’s Results Framework was the workshop’s principal reference point and a blend of teaching presentations, team discussions, role play, and group work were used to apply ‘real-time ’ learning to the completion of the Results Framework.

Participants benefited from the physical and virtual participation of ILO Caribbean DWT Specialists, ILO experts at the Regional Office and Headquarters, as well as the administrative, logistical, and programming expertise of the ILO Port of Spain staff.

This workshop was the first of its kind for the ILO Caribbean Office which gives evidence that the delivery of ILO’s support for DWCP to constituents continues to evolve as lessons learned are applied.

In his closing remarks, the workshop’s co-facilitator, Deputy Director, Lars Johansen, pointed to the seriousness, commitment, and enthusiasm of the Surinamese team as being vital to the week’s success and a positive indication that the DWCP will yield great results.

The success of this training workshop is a step forward in achieving decent work for all in Suriname.
