HANOI (ILO News) – More than 300 students, union leaders and representatives gathered at an event to celebrate 90 years of the Viet Nam General Confederation of Labour (VGCL) and 100 years of the ILO at the Trade Union University in Hanoi on 31 May.

The forum on “Future trade union officers in Viet Nam’s labour relations reform” provided an opportunity for the students to learn from the experience of current and former union leaders, the mandate of VGCL and ILO’s ideals and visions on decent work and social justice.

To inspire the future generation, ILO Viet Nam Director Chang-Hee Lee had a TED talk on the importance of trade unions.

Among the participants at the forum were VGCL Vice Chairman Ngo Duy Hieu, former chairs of VGCL, Pham The Duyet and Cu Thi Hau.

Viet Nam’s renowned singer Tran Nguyen Uyen Linh also performed the ILO100 song entitled “We’ve got a vision” at the event.

Prior to the forum, an online contest on the history of Viet Nam’s trade union and 100 years of ILO attracted more than 3,000 students from the university.

The activity was part of ILO’s New Industrial Relations Framework project funded by the Japanese Government.
