Strengthening employers' voice in Libya

General Libyan Union of Chambers of Commerce (GLUCC) rolls out further training to its members on effective management of employer and business membership organizations (EBMOs)

Tripoli (ILO News) From 8 to 12 December 2024, the General Libyan Union of Chambers of Commerce, Industry, and Agriculture (GLUCC) hosted a capacity-building training in Tripoli, Libya's capital. The training, aimed at enhancing the management of employer and business membership organizations, brought together 13 participants, including representatives from member chambers, companies, and stakeholders across Libya.

The objective of the training was to strengthen the ability of the GLUCC, along with its member chambers and member companies across Libya, to effectively lead and manage employer and business membership organizations. This involved equipping participants with the knowledge and tools necessary to improve governance structures, enhance advocacy efforts, develop impactful communication strategies, expand membership, and provide high-quality services to their members. By addressing these core functions, the training aimed to enable the GLUCC and its members to operate more efficiently and deliver greater value to businesses they represent in all regions of Libya.

This new training cycle featured broad regional representation, fostering dialogue and contributing to peacebuilding efforts in Libya.

The initiative was made possible through collaboration between Bureau for Employers' Activities of the ILO (ACT/EMP), the ILO Country Office for Algeria, and the GLUCC, which provided the venue and logistical support. The opening and closing ceremonies were attended by GLUCC President Mohamed Raid, ILO Director for Algeria, Libya, Mauritania, Morocco, and Tunisia, Dr. Halim Hamzaoui, and a representative of the Libyan Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

As the ILO employer constituent in Libya, the GLUCC plays a vital role in representing the Libyan private sector through its member federations and associations across the country. This training further strengthens its capacity to support employers and contribute to economic and organizational development in Libya.
