Special sessions in Brussels focus on activity of Georgia’s trade unions

In the framework of the Eastern Partnership special sessions in Brussels focused on the issue of Georgia’s trade union activity.

The meetings brought together experts of the International Labour Organization, the EU, the European Parliament, the American Center for International Labor Solidarity and chairs of Europe’s trade unions.

“At the sessions an EU special envoy read out a message from EU Trade Commissioner Karel De Gucht saying that the signing of a free trade agreement with Georgia will depend on how the country’s authorities develop relations with trade unions and amend the labour legislation,” a representative of the Georgian Trade Union Confederation said.

According to the Georgian Trade Union Confederation, Georgia’s Labour Code was one of the themes discussed during the meetings. The discussion on the issue will be continued at the annual session of the International Labour Conference in Geneva in June, where representatives of both Georgia’s trade unions and government will take part.
