South-South Cooperation boosts technical and vocational education and training (TVET) capacity in Lao People’s Democratic Republic

VIENTIANE, The Lao People’s Democratic Republic (ILO News) – With support from the ILO/China Partnership Programme, the Lao-German Technical College of the Lao People’s Democratic Republic continues to enhance its teachers' capabilities in teaching electrical automation methodologies.

An exchange programme and skills training, led by professional instructors from the Yunnan Advanced Technical School of Electronic Information of China, has provided the Lao-German Technical College teachers with advanced knowledge in electrical automation.

During a visit to Kunming, Yunnan, China, from 22 to 29 August 2024, five teachers were trained on various aspects including the structure of Programmable Logic Controller (PLC), the connection and design of PLC electric wiring, the design and management of electric relay circuits, relay obstacle analysis and resolution, and the integration of theoretical and practical knowledge.

“The training has significantly enhanced the capabilities of the Lao-German Technical College teachers in electrical automation. These teachers are now better equipped to effectively instruct and guide their students,” said Tian Feng, Project Manager and Coordinator of the ILO/China Partnership Programme on Strengthening Skills Development in Cambodia, Lao People's Democratic Republic and Myanmar through South-South and Triangular Cooperation (SSTC) project.

The visits foster increased cooperation between the Lao-German Technical College and the Yunnan Advanced Technical School of Electronic Information of China. This collaboration seeks to share best practices in skills standards, TVET training system management, skills competitions, and curriculum development with members of the South-South Cooperation Network, ultimately contributing to human resource development and skill enhancement for decent work opportunities.

The SSTC project aims to improve employability of workers and increase productivity of enterprises through better quality of employment services, skills development and institutional capacity building.
