TURIN (ILO News) - Over 150 representatives and specialists from development cooperation agencies, foreign affairs and other ministries, UN agencies, diplomatic missions, workers’ and employers’ organizations, and local government will be participating in the South-South and Triangular Cooperation (SSTC) Academy to be held in Turin (Italy) from 11-15 July 2016.
The event is an interregional forum to set up and coordinate high-level strategic initiatives and political advocacy related to SSTC in support of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the Decent Work Agenda.

The Academy is a new initiative by the ILO and its Turin-based International Training Centre, involving ILO departments in Geneva and field offices.
A South-South Cooperation Forum will follow in China in September. The ILO will also participate in the United Nations Global South-South Development Expo of the United Nations in November 2016.
South-South and triangular cooperation (SSTC) can be defined as collaboration between two or more developing countries, often supported by traditional partners, guided by the principles of solidarity and non-conditionality, aimed at implementing inclusive and distributive development models that are driven by demand.
As reflected in the 2030 Sustainable Development Agenda, South-South and triangular cooperation has become a key modality of international development cooperation and an essential tool for the United Nations development system.
Ministerial-level participants from the Global South, heads of agencies, and workers’ and employers’ organizations are expected to participate actively in the different sessions.
The Academy also offers a virtual space and a fair for sharing practical experiences and lessons learned in an international context with the aim of creating and strategizing notable and high-impact collaborative opportunities. The flexible and interactive dynamics of the programme will provide an enriching experience both for well-established experts and newcomers. The Academy is supported by a virtual meeting point on ILO Turin’s e-campus.
At the end of the event, participants will be expected to have learned the tools and methodologies needed to launch, implement and evaluate SSTC initiatives and projects, as well as to strengthen and build their networks, communities of practice, and partnerships based on good practices and lessons learned.
