South Africa elected President of the 2016 International Labour Conference
The Minister of Labour of South Africa, H.E. Mildred Oliphant was elected President of the 105th session of the International Labour Conference (ILC), which takes place from 30 May to 10 June 2016 in Geneva, Switzerland.
GENEVA/ABIDJAN/PRETORIA – H.E. Mildred Oliphant, Minister of Labour of South Africa, will be chairing the 105th session of the annual International Labour Conference.
The Conference elected as Vice-Presidents Ernesto Carles Rudy (Governments) from Panama, Alberto Echavarria (Employers) from Colombia and Eric Manzi Mwezi (Workers) from Rwanda.
Mrs Oliphant has been in charge of the Ministry of Labour for six years with a focus on implementing the agenda of decent work and productive employment with social dialogue.
The ILC sets the broad policies of the International Labour Organization (ILO) and meets once a year in Geneva, Switzerland. The annual Conference brings together some 5,000 government, worker and employer delegates from the ILO’s 187 Member States.
