Seminar on Public and Private Employment Services

Pauline Barrett-Reid and Maxim Topilin cochaired the first session of the seminar All Participants received a newly printed Russian edition of the ILO publication ‘The public employment service in a changing labour market’

We are talking first of all about the structure of employment services, about the competitiveness of vocational training, about cooperation with the employers’ associations, about licensing of private recruitment agencies, and many other issues. This is why the seminar’s conclusions and recommendations are so important for us, and we are grateful to the ILO Office for organizing such meetings’. This is an extract from an opening statement by Maxim Topilin, Deputy Minister of Labour and Social Development of the RF, at the seminar on public and private employment services held in Moscow on 9-10 October.

Speaking at the seminar, Pauline Barrett-Reid, Director of the ILO Sub-regional Office, underlined the role of sustainable employment in poverty eradication. The Director also stressed the importance of social partnership in the employment services development.

The seminar justified all expectations. It was a very active and constructive discussion between the representatives of public and private employment services, Ministry of Labour, trade unions and employers’ associations, as well as delegates from Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Ukraine.
