Seminar “End Child Labour in Supply Chains – it’s everyone’s business”

On 6 June 2016, a training seminar on the topic “End Child Labour in Supply Chains – it’s everyone’s business” was held in Khujand, Tajikistan. It was organized by the ILO-IPEC in Tajikistan, executive bodies of Sughd region and the International Agricultural Producers Association. The trainers were Irina Shasnovich, National consultant on child labour issues, and Muhayo Khosabekova, ILO-IPEC National Project Coordinator in Tajikistan.

Among the participants were officials of the Education and Science Department, the State Labour Inspection Service, the Committee on Women and Family, the Public Health and Social Protection Department, branch offices of the Adult Training Center in Isfara and Ghafurov districts, representatives of the Committee on the Rights of the Child, the Department of Culture, as well as representatives of NGOs, trade unions and employers.

The programme was based on the interactive training methodology and included theoretical and practical classes, discussions, individual exercises, work in small groups. The participants heard mini-lectures on the child labour concept, consequences of child labour, CL statistics, combating child labour in supply chains, and a presentation entitled "12 June - World Day against Child Labour".

At the end of the training, the participants completed the evaluation questionnaires. In particular they stated that they have learned how define facts of child labour, have increased their knowledge about international and national legal documents on child labour, and understood how children get into supply chains. They proposed to work more actively on child labour in the supply chains in agriculture, also by working with employers on a regional level.
