SADA Women’s Cooperative Visits Defne Women’s Cooperative

Members of SADA Women’s Cooperative, supported and operating under the Project “Strengthening the Resilience of Syrian Women and Girls” being implemented by the United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and Empowerment of Women (UN Women) with the International Labour Organization (ILO) and Association for Solidarity with Asylum-Seekers and Migrants (ASAM) as implementing partners, visited Defne [Daphne] Women’s Cooperative operating in Hatay. The visit was paid on 8 August 2019 by 15 members of SADA Women’s Cooperative who toured the processing and packaging plant, and had conversation on experience sharing with the members of the hosting cooperative.
Mr. Halit İmrek, Hatay Provincial Director of Trade, also participated in the field trip where the visitors toured the processing and packaging plant of Defne Women’s Cooperative located in Yeşilpınar. The cooperative building, which was made available at no charge by Defne District Municipality of Hatay to the cooperative, was toured by the hosts and visitors and information was provided on the production processes. The delegation then visited Turfanda village where Defne Women’s Cooperative produced organic products under its trademark “Daphne Branch”. Gathering at the village hall, the participants had conversation during the lunch prepared by local people and women. A discussion was held here on the works of both SADA and Defne Women’s Cooperatives.
The last part of the visit included an experience-sharing meeting at the Chamber of Tradesmen and Craftsmen of Hatay. At this experience-sharing meeting attended by members of prospective cooperatives being established, they shared their experience ranging from founding works to production and marketing activities, from problems encountered to solutions applied. The visit concluded with a group photograph and well wishes.
