Russia’s Labour Ministry: over 26 million of Russians work in hazardous jobs

Almost half of employed Russian citizens or 26.6 million work in hazardous jobs, the deputy head of the Labour and Social Protection Ministry’s department, Pyotr Sergeyev, told the public hearings on the formation of a healthy lifestyle.

“According to the statistics, the number of workers in hazardous conditions totals 31.8 percent and over the past several years this share has been growing,” he said.

Mining, industrial, construction and transport companies report the highest growth of workplaces with hazardous conditions.

“Last year 56,000 workers were injured in occupational accidents, 2,999 workers died at work,” Sergeyev said.

Every year around 7,000-8,000 workers contract occupational diseases.
