During his speech at the PSCBC Gala Dinner the ILO DWT/CO Pretoria Director Vic van Vuuren highlighted the following points:
The importance of social dialogue and its value in sustaining and developing worker/employer relations.
Social dialogue should be driven by line management together with worker representatives.
Social dialogue should not be confused with formal collective bargaining that takes place.
That existing collective bargaining structures should be reviewed particularly those of the state and they are outdated and cumbersome.
That the unacceptable wage gap in South Africa can no longer be ignored and needs to be addressed.
