Promotion of decent work standards: conference in Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk

On July 8-10, participants in a research and practical conference discussed promotion of decent work and decent wage standards in Russia’s Far East. The conference entitled “Role of trade unions in promoting decent work standards” was organized in Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk with support from the ILO and the Federation of Independent Trade Unions of Russia.

ILO Moscow Senior Specialists in Workers’ Activities Sergeyus Glovackas reported on the International Labour Organization’s wage recommendations. A representative from the Federation of Independent Trade Unions of Russia, Yelena Kosakovskaya, focused on decent wage standards promoted by Russia’s trade unions.

ILO Moscow Senior Social Security Specialist Mariko Ouchi briefed on principles of wage formation and the minimum wage. ILO’s international expert Harri Taliga demonstrated Europe’s stance on this issue.

Participants in the conference also discussed protection of workers’ rights, gender aspects of combining work and family responsibilities, protection of maternity and childhood by trade unions.
