Winners of a video and photo competition on occupational safety and health (OSH), organized by the ILO through its Better Work Indonesia (BWI) programme, were announced in Jakarta on 19 September 2018. The competition was part of the ILO-BWI’s efforts to raise awareness on safe workplace in garment factories and to increase the participation of OSH committees, managers, and trade unions on any OSH related initiatives.

Around 70 videos and 282 photos were received from 72 Companies, of which 69 companies were garment factories. The number of entries was a big success as it was beyond the expectation. Some finalists explained that this competition was considered an effective platform to increase the awareness at the factory and to share best practices of safety at workplace initiatives."

The video and photo competition was conducted for period of one month in August 2018. With support from the Compliance Community Indonesia (CCI), the ILO-BWI encouraged workers and employers in garment factories to creatively develop a short video and photo that illustrated the importance of safety at workplace and could be used to promote safety at workplace.

Every week the ILO-BWI posted the entries on its Facebook and Instagram to increase the interaction and engagement from workers and employers. Entries with the most likes on Facebook and Instagram would be selected as the favorite winners.

This competition is not only useful for our factory but also for our sister company, PT Anggun. Using videos and photos are very effective to promote safety at workplace. We also learn from the best practices from other factories to be used in our factory."
