VIENTIANE, Lao PDR (ILO News)– The Project Advisory Committee Meeting for the ILO/China Partnership Programme convened in Vientiane, Laos, on April 4, 2024, marking a crucial progress in the project's journey. Representatives from tripartite constitutes, included Ministry of Labour and Social Welfare, Lao Federation of Trade Unions, Lao National Chamber of Commerce and Industry and partner organizations gathered to assess the achievements and endorse project workplan 2024, in Lao People Democratic Republic.
The meeting opened with speeches from the H.E. Mr Phongsaysack Inthalath, Vice Minister of Labour and Social Welfare of Laos, H.E. Vilay Vongkhaseum, Vice President of Lao Federation of Trade Unions, H.E. Mr Xaybandith Rasaphone, Vice President of Lao National Chamber of Commerce and Industry recognizing the significant contributions of the ILO/China Partnership Programme to skill development in the country. The tripartite constitutes extended deep gratitude for the support of ILO/China Partnership Programme. Mr TIAN Feng, the Project Manager and Coordinator then provided insights into the project's accomplishments, highlighting its pivotal role in advancing the Skills Development for Decent Work Country Programme (DWCP).
During the meeting, the achievements of the project in 2023 and implementation activities for further collaboration with partner organizations in 2024 were presented to all participants. And full recognition and agreement were expressed by partners. While acknowledging the merits of the project plan, partners also offered valuable insights and suggestions to solve potential challenge.
In summary, the meeting emphasized the project's commitment to promoting skills development, improving employability of labour, and addressing skills shortage, skills mismatch in Laos. The outcomes of the meeting will serve as a roadmap for the ILO/China Partnership Programme's activities in 2024, setting the stage for continued progress and impact in the country.
