Philippine employers launch AI-powered tool to support sustainable and responsible business practices
24 April 2025
The International Labour Organization (ILO) and the by the International Training Centre of the International Labour Organization (ITCILO) are supporting the Employers Confederation of the Philippines (ECOP) in strengthening business capacity to meet growing demands around sustainability, labour standards, and responsible digital transformation.
With regulatory momentum building in the Philippines—such as new sustainability reporting guidelines and the development of an ESG (Environmental, Social and Governance) framework—businesses face increasing pressure to align with international sustainability standards. Recognizing this, ECOP, with technical support from the ILO, has taken a proactive role in helping employers rise to the challenge.
At the heart of this effort is ECOP’s evolving sustainability support program, which includes tools like the SDG Value Scan, enabling companies to align with the UN Sustainable Development Goals while unlocking new sources of business value.
In April, ECOP unveiled its latest innovation: NaviGate, an AI-powered navigation tool designed to give member companies streamlined access to guidance and resources on key areas such as occupational safety and health, labour standards, industrial relations, and beyond. Developed with the support of the ILO, NaviGate is a practical step forward in equipping employers—especially small and medium-sized enterprises—with accessible, up-to-date knowledge to navigate complex sustainability and compliance challenges.
The launch event, held on April 15, brought together more than 100 participants, including ECOP Board Members, business representatives, government officials, and international development partners. It featured insights into the Philippine and global labour landscapes, particularly on the transformative role of artificial intelligence in the world of work.
The event also emphasized the pivotal role of employers’ organizations (EBMOs) in promoting responsible AI adoption, particularly in shaping policy, using AI for compliance, and guiding enterprises through digital transitions.
This initiative is part of the ILO’s broader effort to strengthen the capacity of employer and business membership organizations (EBMOs) to lead on issues at the intersection of digital transformation, labour rights, and sustainable development.
