Our goal is to ensure safe labour
On April 25-26 Astana hosted the third Kazakhstan International Occupational Safety and Health Conference and Exhibition KIOSH-2013.

The conference was opened with a minute’s silence to pay respects to all those killed and injured at work.
In his opening remarks Kazakh Labour and Social Protection Minister Serik Abdenov cited the ILO statistics saying that every year 270 million people suffer occupational injuries.
“Our goal is to ensure safe labour and we are moving towards this goal,” he said. “For 20 years the Republic of Kazakhstan has reduced occupational accidents three-fold. Unfortunately, the level of occupational diseases remains at the same level. The task of this conference and exhibition is to make its contribution to occupational safety and health.”
The director for sustainable development of Eurasian Natural Resources Corporation PLC, Gulsara Edilbaeva, briefed on the corporation’s plans to enter the top list of the world’s mining corporations in occupational safety and health.
“We set the goal of achieving zero accidents,” Edilbaeva said. “We’ve trained over 1,000 labour inspectors who work at our enterprises. Every year the company spends over $200 million for improving working conditions.”
The exhibition was timed to coincide with the World Day for Safety and Health at Work marked on Aril 28. A total of 43 companies from Kazakhstan, Russia and Ukraine participated.
