Orientation Seminar: Africa strengthens its voice on the ILO Governing Body

The ILO Regional Office for Africa held a seminar in Abidjan to prepare the new members of the Governing Body to participate in the 352nd session in Geneva.

ABIDJAN (ILO News) – The Regional Office for Africa of the International Labour Organization (ILO) organised an orientation seminar for newly elected members of the ILO Governing Body for the 2024-2027 term. The seminar, held in Abidjan from 9 to 11 October, aimed to train members on the functioning and decision-making processes of the ILO Governing Body.

The event was officially opened by Adama Kamara, Minister of Employment and Social Protection of Côte d'Ivoire, in the presence of Adidjatou Mathys, Minister of Labour and Public Service of Benin, Adrien Nguema Mba, Minister of Labour and the Fight against Unemployment of Gabon, and André Bogui, Chief of Staff of the ILO. It followed the election of new representatives during the International Labour Conference in June 2024.

The Governing Body members, composed of representatives of the three constituent groups, namely governments, employers and workers, will then travel to Geneva at the end of October to participate in the 352nd session of the Governing Body, scheduled from 28 October to 7 November 2024.
