Ombudsmen of Central Asia, Russia discuss legal protection for labor migrants at Dushanbe conference

Ombudsmen of Central Asian states and Russia will discuss effective ways of legal assistance for labor migrants at the two-day conference, which opened in Dushanbe on Tuesday.
Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan are main suppliers of labor migrants, primarily to Russia and Kazakhstan in the CIS region. The main problems include absence of proper professional skills and a poor education level of most labor migrants, organizers say.
The problems are exacerbated by poor knowledge of laws, leading to their vulnerability and discrimination, labor exploitation and slavery.
Ombudsmen of the involved countries initiated collaboration in this sphere to develop mechanisms and to identify practical measures for proper legal consultations for labor migrants in case of violation of their rights.
