On the occasion of the World Humanitarian Summit ILO organises a a Side Event on “The Central Role of Decent Work in Addressing the Syrian Refugee Crisis: The ILO Experience”
Within the scope of World Humanitarian Summit on 23-24 May 2016 in İstanbul, a side event on “The Central Role of Decent Work in Addressing the Syrian Refugee Crisis: The ILO Experience” will be held on 23 May 2016, Monday at 08:30 – 10:00 a.m. at Galata Hall of Lütfii Kirdar Convention and Exhibition Center.
The Side Event, which will be moderated by ILO Director-General Guy Ryder, will kick off with the keynote speech of Mr. Süleyman Soylu, Minister of Labour and Social Security.
Organized as an interactive panel discussion with active participation from the audience, the objective of this event is to strengthen the nexus between humanitarian assistance and development cooperation by reviewing good practices regarding decent work promotion as an important objective in situations of forced displacement. It will consider the policy and programme actions necessary to underpin such an approach, using the Temporary Protection Regulation and the Work Permits Regulation in Turkey as an example and associated support activities. It will ensure a more informed understanding of how to better align humanitarian action with development cooperation aimed at generating decent work, reinforcing protection of vulnerable populations and building their resilience.
The event will also consider durable decent work solutions for refugees and vulnerable host communities alike.
The panelists of the event will include Ergün Atalay, President of Confederation of Turkish Trade Unions (TÜRK-İŞ); Erol Kiresepi, Vice-President of Turkish Confederation of Employer Associations (TİSK); Süleyman Tapsız, Governor of Kilis and Adalet Budak Akbaş, Social Affairs Coordinator, GAP Regional Development Administration.
