Not all remittances sent by labour migrants to Tajikistan - minister

Not the entire amount of remittances are sent by labour migrants, the Tajik minister of economic development and trade, Sharif Rahimzoda, said at a news conference on 29 January.
He said that last year remittances (from Russia, the author's comment) amounted to 3.8bn dollars, about 1bn of which was generated from the sale of various products, including agricultural goods.
"Now over 250,000 Tajiks are Russian citizens and have relatives in Tajikistan whom they send money. They are not considered labour migrants," Rahimzoda said.
"Moreover, Tajikistan exported 100,000 tones of dried fruits worth about 700m dollars [to Russia] in 2012. This money was also sent via banks," the minister added.
