Nigerian Labour Congress and ILO to jointly promote Decent Work
The International Labour Organisation (ILO) and the Nigerian Labour Congress agreed to work together towards the promotion of Decent Work for all Nigerian Workers .

ABUJA (ILO News) - The newly-elected President of the Nigerian Labour Congress, Mr Ayuba Wabba, on Tuesday 10th July 2015, paid a courtesy call on the ILO Office in Abuja, Nigeria to discuss new areas for strategic cooperation.
Mr Wabba, who represents Nigeria’s largest Trade Union Federation, was welcomed to the ILO byMr Dennis Zulu, ILO Officer-in-Charge for Nigeria, Ghana, Liberia, Sierra Leone and the Gambia.
Mr Zulu congratulated the NLC President for his election to Office and expressed the ILO’s commitment to working with the new NLC Executive towards the promotion of Decent Work for all Nigerian Workers.
Mr Zulu also thanked the NLC President for his contributions during the recently held International Ebola Recovery Conference in New York July 2015.
The NLC President highlighted his organisation’s readiness for a renewed partnership between the ILO and NLC.
Ayuba Wabba informed Mr Zulu that the new Executive was keen to ensure that workers’ rights were promoted and thus his organisation was undertaking a number of activities to sensitize their members on their rights. According to the NLC President, discussions are currently ongoing with various Employers across Nigeria in a bid to improve Social Dialogue as a means of consultation and dispute resolution.
In this regard NLC would be looking towards the ILO for technical support.
The Nigeria Labour Congress is the larger of two Workers federations in Nigeria. The other Federation is the Trade Union Congress (TUC) of Nigeria. The NLC was established in 1978 following a merger of four different organisations: Nigeria Trade Union Congress (NTUC), Labour Unity Front (LUF), United Labour Congress (ULC) and Nigeria Workers Council (NWC). It has affiliates drawn from all major sectors of the Nigerian Economy.
