Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG)
Nigerian employers are taking decisive steps towards stronger engagement on ESG and responsible business practices

As a response to the growing pressure, at national and international levels, on companies to embrace Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) standards, the Nigeria Employers Consultative Association (NECA) engaged into strengthening its capacities to provide sustainable information and training services on ESG to its members.
On 8 and 9 July, 20 NECA staff and partners participated in a training of trainers (ToT) in Lagos as part of the ILO Bureau for Employers ‘Activities (ACT/EMP) LEADER programme (Leading Employers in Action for Social and Environmental Responsibility). The training course, developed by the International Training Centre of the ILO (ITCILO), enables business membership organizations to sensitize and equip companies with practical ESG knowledge and tools to enhance their sustainability strategy and competitiveness. A localized version was developed to incorporate the specificities of the Nigerian context

This TOT was immediately followed by a step-down training from 10 to 11 July attended by representatives of 52 multinationals and SMEs from diverse sectors of the Nigerian economy. During these two days, these companies have increased their knowledge and shared their experiences as some of them are already strongly committed to sustainability and responsible business conduct.
