Nigeria appoints national focal points to promote the MNE Declaration

Abuja, Nigeria (ILO news) - On 3 September 2025, Nigeria officially appointed national focal points for the ILO Tripartite Declaration of Principles concerning Multinational Enterprises and Social Policy (MNE Declaration). The appointed focal points represent key national institutions and social partners, including the Federal Ministry of Labour and Employment, the Nigeria Employers’ Consultative Association (NECA), the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), the Trade Union Congress of Nigeria (TUC), the National Human Rights Commission, and the Nigerian Investment Promotion Commission (NIPC).

A distinctive aspect of this appointment is the inclusion of both the National Human Rights Commission and the national investment promotion agency alongside the ILO tripartite constituents. This inclusive approach aims to foster stronger synergies between human rights policies, investment promotion strategies, and decent work priorities.

Nigeria is benefiting from the “Entr’Alliance” development cooperation project, supported by the ILO-France partnership, which includes a dedicated component on the promotion and application of the MNE Declaration. Within this framework, a series of activities have been carried out to build awareness and strengthen national ownership of the MNE Declaration, including a tripartite workshop in 2023, sensitization workshops for enterprises in 2024, and a national dialogue held in 2025.
