ALEPPO (ILO News) - As part of its Weaving Hope project, the International Labour Organization (ILO) participated in the Khan Al-Harir Motex Exhibition, presenting a dedicated showcase of progress and achievements in Syria’s garment and textile sector. The ILO’s participation in the exhibition helped strengthen collaboration with industry stakeholders and promote sustainable recovery, decent work and inclusive growth in one of Syria’s most pivotal sectors.
"This exhibition reflects not only the products of a revitalised industry but also the resilience and determination of Syrian workers and entrepreneurs," said Houmam Almachhour, ILO National Project Coordinator in Aleppo. "Through Weaving Hope, we are advancing competitiveness, equality and decent work in the textile and garment sector."
The exhibition, organized by the Chambers of Commerce and Industry, emphasised the sector’s potential to compete internationally with modern technology, upgraded skills, and improved working conditions. It also highlighted the role of social dialogue and partnership between government institutions, employers, and workers in driving sustainable recovery.
The ILO’s exhibition stand featured before-and-after visuals of upgraded factories, infographics on project results, and sample garments produced by local factories supported through the initiative. Visitors also explored a “skills corner” displaying training materials and testimonies from workers whose skills and opportunities have improved through the project.
Through showcasing success stories and tangible progress, the Weaving Hope participation in the exhibition reinforced the ILO’s commitment to supporting Syria’s garment and textile industry, contributing to job creation, skills development, gender equality, and inclusive economic growth.
