New Findings on how Trafficking in Persons is Processed by the Peruvian Justice System

Lima – Police officers, prosecutors, judges, and public defenders specialized in trafficking from different regions of Peru participated in a virtual workshop to discuss the findings of the Third Case Study on Trafficking in Persons and its Forms of Exploitation in Peru.

The discussion among professionals and guest expert speakers facilitated the identification of measures to promote the adoption of best practices in the judicial processing of those crimes.

Experts Daniel Quispe Meza and Julio Rodríguez Vásquez presented the findings and conducted a comprehensive analysis of the regulations common to all labor and sexual exploitation crimes and the specific characteristics of trafficking. Senior prosecutors and judges from different courts across Peru enriched the discussion by providing practical perspectives and recommendations to improve the judicial processing to these cases.

Rocío Gala Gálvez, Senior Prosecutor and Coordinator of the Specialized Prosecution Offices for Trafficking; Freddy Hernández Rosales, Senior Prosecutor; and judges Rubén Gómez Aquino and Santos Teófilo Cruz Ponce, from the High Courts of Justice of Puno and La Libertad, respectively, presented their comments and reflections on the findings.

Since it was an online event, professionals from different regions of Peru were able to participate, which expanded the impact of this initiative. This virtual workshop represented a significant milestone in terms of interinstitutional collaboration and strengthening of the Peruvian judicial system.
