National Forum on the Future of Work in Tanzania
The ILO and Tanzania are organizing a tripartite forum to officially commence the Future of Work Centenary consultations in the country

Dar es Salaam (ILO News): The ILO, in collaboration with the Prime Minister’s office – Policy, Parliamentary Affairs, Labour, Employment, Youth and People living with disability - and social partners, is organising from 19-20 April 2016 a Forum to officially commence the ‘Future of Work Centenary Initiative’ (FWCI) in Tanzania.
Activities include a symposium on youth and the future of work is slated for 19th followed by a full-fledged forum on 20th April 2016. The event is intended to initiate a tripartite dialogue on the future of work in the context of Tanzania within an extremely changing and evolving world of work.
The Forum to be officiated on 20 April 2016 by Hon. Jenista Mhagama, Minister of State for Policy, Parliamentary Affairs, Labour, Employment, Youth and People living with disability, will bring together 200 participants including representatives from youth organizations, government ministries, the private sector, academia and other stakeholders.
The participants will together provide views on Tanzania’s future of work and guidance for the future activities of the ILO focusing on four key areas namely, Work and Society, Decent jobs for all, the organization and production of work, and the governance of work.
The ILO launched ‘The Future of Work Centenary Initiative’ (FWCI) in June 2015 as one of the activities to mark the ILO’s centenary in 2019.
The rationale behind the FWCI is to give the ILO and its constituents the opportunity to understand and respond effectively to the fast and big transformations that are taking place in the world of work. The initiative aims at thinking through the overall dynamics and direction of change and what this requires of the Organization.
