Ms. Mary Kawar assumes her new post as the new Director of the ILO Dar es Salaam Office
Ms. Mary Kawar assumed her new post as the new Director of the ILO Dar es Salaam Office effective 01 December 2015 following her recent appointment by the ILO Director General Mr. Guy Ryder.

Dar es Salaam (ILO News) - The ILO Director General Guy Ryder appointed Ms. Mary Kawar as the new Director of the ILO Office for Tanzania, Kenya, Uganda, Rwanda and Burundi, located in Dar es Salaam with effect from 01 December 2015.
Prior to her current assignment, since 2012, Ms. Kawar, was responsible for employment policy at the ILO Regional Office for the Arab States, in Beirut, Lebanon. She has worked with the ILO since 1997 holding various positions in the areas of employment, skills development, youth and gender. Her most recent activities centered on the refugee crisis in the Middle East.
Ms. Kawar believes, “… It’s my great expectation that this current appointment will reinforce ILO action in the subregion and further strengthen its cooperation between the governments and social partners. The ILO will enhance our common efforts to promote decent work for all”.
Ms. Kawar, a Jordanian national, earned her PhD in development studies from the London School of Economics having previously completed her degree in Anthropology at Tufts University in the United States. She has authored several publications in many different areas of decent work.
