Moving forward the social economy agenda in South Africa
The NEDLAC Decent Work Committee and the ILO are jointly working on the Social Economy Project for more and better sustainable enterprises.

PRETORIA (ILO News) – Representatives from the National Economic Development and Labour Council (NEDLAC) are supporting the ILO’s Private and Public Procurement and the Social Economy (PPPSE) Project financed by the Government of Flanders.
Delegates from government, organized labour, employers and community are supporting the project and social economy businesses in South Africa to penetrate the regulatory space for the preferential procurement of their goods and services through Government and the private sector.
The objective for the next two years and half is to combine a mix of advocacy and policy advisory services targeted at procurement officials in Government and public and private sector corporate business, and to build the capacity of owner-managers of social enterprises.
The overall outcome of the project is more and better jobs for men and women in sustainable social enterprises, with a geographic focus on social enterprises operating in the Kwa-Zulu Natal and Free State Provinces.
The ultimate beneficiaries of the proposed project are emerging and established social entrepreneurs and their workers in the target municipalities of KwaZulu Natal and the Free State.
