Moscow hosts conference on improvement of On April 22-24 Russia’s Ministry of Labour and Social Protection in Moscow hosted an international conference focusing on improvement and development of national laws on the basis of international labour standards.

The conference was aimed at analysing compliance of Russia’s legislation in the social and labour sphere with international labour standards and at developing recommendations to further improve laws and adopt international standards.
Delegates to the conference considered how to improve national laws in labour migration, protection of children’s rights, occupational safety and health, remuneration, employment promotion, social security and aspects of labour relations in some sectors of economy. They analysed some international treaties in the social and labour sphere and discussed medium-term prospects for ratifying ILO conventions and other international treaties.
Director of the ILO Decent Work Technical Support Team and Country Office for Eastern Europe and Central Asia Dimitrina Dimitrova noted that the seminar “is part of the implementation of one of the key priorities of the Programme of Cooperation between the Russian Federation and the ILO for 2013-2016 on “promoting international labour standards” through “promoting further ratification and application of the ILO conventions and recommendations”.”
She described the seminar as “an important step in a deep and ongoing tripartite cooperation that the ILO cherishes and is committed to expand.”
“While historically challenges differ from country to country, the success has invariably been anchored in the ILO fundamental assumption that fruits of economic progress are to be equitably shared and that economic growth and social justice go hand in hand,” said Dimitrina Dimitrova.
The conference brought together representatives of the government, the presidential administration, workers’ and employers’ association, experts of the ILO, the International Organization for Migration, the Council of Europe and representatives of scientific and professional communities.
