Minister Mupfumira meets the ILO Director General Guy Ryder
Hon. Priscah Mupfumira, the new Minister of Public Service, Labour and Social Welfare met the ILO Director General on 23 March 2015, on the sidelines of the 323rd ILO Governing Body (GB) taking place from 15 to27 March 2015.

The Governing Body is the executive body of the International Labour Organization (the Office is the Secretariat of the Organization). It meets three times a year, in March, June and November and it takes decisions on ILO policy, adopts the draft Programme and Budget of the Organization, as well as oversees the process of appointment of the ILO Director General, among other issues. Zimbabwe is currently a member of the Governing Body During the ten days, Governing Body members meet and deliberate on issues in the various sections, which include the Institution, Policy Development, Legal Issues and International Labour Standards and Programme, Financial and Administration.
Hon. Mupfumira has long history of service in various capacities in the private sector both in local and international entities. She studied Nutrition Food Science in the UK in the late 1970s at the University of Surrey, Guilford and is a graduate of the Nottingham Business School.
Hon. Mupfumira has also been involved in the politics of the country since the 1970s as a member of the ZANU PF London and Surrey Branches. Her activities included fundraising and supporting the preparations for the 1979 Lancaster House Conference talks that led to peace and the independence of Zimbabwe. In 2013, she was appointed Senator on ZANU PF’s ticket for proportional representation. She was appointed Minister of Public Service, Labour and Social Welfare in December 2014 following a Cabinet reshuffle. She served in various Senate Committees, including those on Standing of Rules and Orders, Parliamentary Legal Committee, Youth and Indigenization and Gender. She is a member of the Pan African Parliament and serves in Committees on Rural Economy, Agriculture, Natural Resources and Environment. In 2014, she served as a Team Leader under the African Union (AU) Observer mission during the Egyptian National Elections. She has been a member ZANU PF’s Central Committee, and has held several positions in the party’s branch, district and provincial structures.
She is active in supporting charities and groups advancing the rights of children, women and people with disabilities.
