“Meetings for Evaluating Value Chain Analysis Project Ideas with Leaders of Shoe and Olive Sectors” held in Gaziantep

The International Labour Organization completed the studies on Value Chain Analysis of Gaziantep Shoe Sector and Value Chain Analysis of Gaziantep and Kilis Olive and Olive Oil Sector undertaken to contribute to local economic development, facilitate social dialogue in shoe and olive sectors and promote gender equality in the value chain systems. ILO held a meeting in Gaziantep on 21 March 2018 that brought together the leaders of shoe and olive sectors, and representatives of sectoral promotion agencies in order to share the outputs of such studies and evaluate project ideas that will add value to the sector.


Participants in the meetings with the representatives of the shoe sector in the morning session, and those of the olive sector in the afternoon, evaluated the project ideas formulated on the basis of field studies and analyses in respect of added value, feasibility, level of difficulty, and impact on the short, medium and long terms. They further discussed which organisations may be stakeholders in the outstanding projects and technical details for projects (space, staffing, equipment etc.). The noteworthy ideas for the shoe sector included the provision of vocational training by setting up a shoe-upping workshop, promoting the intensive employment of both Syrian and local women in the sector; and for the olive sector, establishing pickling facilities, organising vocational training for employees who will work in olive-oil and pickling facilities, certified young tree growing.
