Media Advisory: Technical Meeting to Discuss Draft Law for Domestic Workers in Jordan
The Jordanian government and the ILO are meeting to review Jordan’s new draft domestic worker law, with the aim of better reflecting the principles of Convention No. 189 on Decent Work for Domestic Workers.

Beirut (ILO News) – The Jordanian government and the ILO are meeting to review Jordan’s new draft domestic worker law, with the aim of better reflecting the principles of Convention No. 189 on Decent Work for Domestic Workers.
The ILO’s Regional Office for Arab States (ROAS) is spearheading advocacy work in the Middle East, in order to encourage governments to enact new legislation to better protect domestic workers. Jordan is the first Arab country to enact legal provisions for domestic workers. Its specific domestic workers’ regulation has been in effect since late 2009. In 2013, a draft law was prepared with the aim of better reflecting the principles of Convention No. 189 on Decent Work for Domestic Workers. The Jordanian government’s Anti-Trafficking Unit has requested the technical support of the ILO in reviewing the new draft law and providing comments to its provisions.
This high level technical meeting will include participants from the Parliament’s Labour Committee, as well as nominated officials from concerned ministries and departments, such as the Ministry of Labour, Ministry of Interior, as well as the Anti-Trafficking Unit.
