The fertility of the land in North Lebanon is legendary. But beneath the tranquillity, there's a crisis. It's just two miles from the Syrian border – and one of the world's most deadly civil wars. The effect on local Lebanese farmers has been profound.
The ILO is launching its interventions in Akkar in North Lebanon to support the local farmers who have been most affected by the Syrian crisis.
Specifically, the ILO will address problems facing farmers in the potato and leafy greens sectors. The ILO is working with local and national partners in North Lebanon to help them counter challenges such as increased competition, rising production costs and loss of markets.
An ambitious ILO project is launching crucial interventions in the area: it is working to upgrade the two value chains by supporting farmer’s cooperatives, improving production processes, providing targeted export support, and accessing new international markets.
Join the ILO and its partner North Lebanon Local Economic Development Agency to launch the interventions of the ILO project “Enabling job resilience and protecting decent work conditions in rural communities affected by Syrian refugees crisis in Northern Lebanon.”

The launch will take place tomorrow Wednesday 20/05/2015, at the Municipality of Halba in Akkar, North Lebanon, from 11:00 AM until 1:30 PM.
