Kyrgyzstan’s Social Development Minister discusses child labour in Geneva
On June 2, Kyrgyzstan’s Minister of Social Development Kudaibergen Bazarbayev met with senior officials of the International Labour Organization in Geneva.

“Last year we registered a 72 percent decline in child labourers as compared to 2012,” he said. “However, child labour, especially involvement of children in the worst forms of child labour, should be given close attention. Thus, since 2013 four more regions of Kyrgyzstan have been encompassed by the project on the elimination of child labour in the tobacco industry. Kyrgyzstan’s Labour Code regulates labour for persons under 18 years of age. The republic also ratified the ILO child labour convention. But we should make further efforts, including those in cooperation with the ILO, to improve the legal framework.”
Bazarbayev invited the ILO to develop a programme of cooperation in the social and labour sphere and enhance information support in occupational safety and health,” the minister said.
