ADDIS ABABA (ILO News) – The International Labour Organisation (ILO) organized a national knowledge sharing expo at UMA Main Exhibition Hall, Lugogo Show grounds in Kampala to highlight the successes of the YEF project over the past five years and present results on approaches for entrepreneurship skills development and sustainable business models.
The Youth Entrepreneurship Facility (YEF) project in Uganda, funded by the Danish Government, has reached over 21,000 emerging and existing young entrepreneurs through business development training and supported the start-up and growth of over 10,000 youth led businesses creating about 24,000 jobs for young people.
“Unleashing African Entrepreneurship” initiative, also known as the Youth Entrepreneurship Facility (YEF), is being implemented in Uganda, Kenya and Tanzania, to turn young people’s energies and ideas into productive businesses, since 2010.
The exhibition by young entrepreneurs and youth development organizations was enriched by parallel workshops and discussion on the promotion of a culture of entrepreneurship, the integration of entrepreneurship education in curricula as well as existing initiatives in facilitating business development and access to finance to young entrepreneurs.
The interactive sessions allowed participants, including development partners, government institutions, NGOs, all other stakeholders committed to promoting youth entrepreneurship, to share experiences and good practices on the WEF project expected to end by June 2015.
