Key UN agencies to host Responsible Business and Human Rights Forum
The Responsible Business and Human Rights Forum brings together representatives from government, business, workers organisations and the international community for wide-ranging discussions on maximising the positive contribution of business to human rights and developmental goals in Asia.
With the theme ‘New Challenges. New Approaches’ this year’s event will focus on the economic and social impact of the COVID 19 crisis and discuss ways in which policies and practice can strengthen institutions and build a fairer, more resilient economy in Asia as the region recovers. To date, more than 3800 delegates have signed up for the forum.
The programme includes, among other subjects, discussions on implementing national action plans on business and human rights, international trade, mitigating the impact of COVID 19 on workers and their communities, tackling gender bias in recovery plans, and assessing policy responses for migrant workers. The Forum will also consider the state of play on climate action amongst companies in the region. " The Forum will also see regional companies share their experiences in goal setting and driving action on climate change .
Hosts of the event include the UN Working Group on Business and Human Rights (UNWG), the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), the International Labour Organization (ILO), the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), the United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women (UN Women) and the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP). The event is being financially supported by the EU and the Swedish government.
