Kazakhstan raises pensions by 9 per cent

The official media today published the government's decree to this effect, which was signed by Prime Minister Serik Akhmetov on 25 December 2012.
The decree also stipulates a 9-per-cent rise in long-service bonuses for law-enforcement personnel.
The Ministry of Labour and Social Protection earlier said that in line with this decree, the minimum pension in Kazakhstan would increase from 17,491 tenge [116 dollars] to 19,066 tenge [127 dollars]. An average pension is now 32,928 tenge [219 dollars].
Over 1.7 million people out of Kazakhstan's 16.8 million population receive pensions.
