The commitment of the Irish Presidency was clearly highlighted in the intervention of the Irish Minister for Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation Mr Richard Bruton at the Committee on Employment and Social Affairs (EMPL) of the European Parliament in January 2013.

Mr Bruton said that “the Irish Presidency will work to strengthen the EU’s engagement with the International Labour Organization and with the G20 process in the employment field.” He also said that “the Presidency will be engaged in consultations with Member States and with international social partners in advance of the ILO European regional meeting on Jobs, Growth and Social Justice in Oslo in April and also the International Labour Conference in Geneva in June.”
