(ILO News) – Baghdad, Iraq – Under the leadership of the Chairman of the Iraqi Federation of Industries, the ILO facilitated an important meeting today with its main board members in Baghdad. Mr. Adel Akab Hussein, aimed to discuss strategies to develop the federation's services and enhance its role as the primary representative of the private sector, with a focus on SMEs development, labor and social protection reforms and the informal economy.
The meeting marks a significant step in the ongoing efforts to conduct an institutional assessment that will pave the way for the creation of a strategic action plan. This initiative is supported by the International Labour Organization (ILO) and seeks to boost the federation's activities, engage more effectively with the private sector, and explore opportunities for cooperation and partnerships with international organizations.
In his opening remarks, President Adel highlighted the importance of this assessment and the strategic plan in driving the federation's future activities. "This meeting is an opportunity to take stock of the federation's achievements and to identify ways to add value to the work of our members. The assessment and strategic plan will strengthen our engagement with the private sector, open up new avenues for cooperation, and amplify the voice of employers in social dialogue discussions," he said.
As part of the institutional assessment, the federation will review its current activities, identify areas for improvement, and develop a comprehensive strategic plan that aligns with the needs of its members and the broader private sector. The assessment will also explore opportunities for strengthening partnerships with international organizations, which can provide valuable resources and expertise to support the federation's mission.
The meeting concluded with a renewed commitment from all board members to work collaboratively towards achieving the federation's goals. The strategic action plan, once finalized, will serve as a roadmap for the federation's future activities and ensure that it continues to play a vital role in representing the interests of the private sector in Iraq.
