Investigative and Inclusive Reporting in Fragile Democracies Training for Journalists in Suva, Fiji

The European Union funded project Valuing Voices under the British Council and Save the Children Fiji (STCF) launched the three day workshop on investigative and inclusive reporting in fragile democracies at the Tanoa Plaza from 7 to 9 September 2016. The workshop was opened by the Delegation for the European Union for the Pacific, Head of Cooperation, Mr Christoph Wagner and facilitated by the international media trainer and educator based in New Zealand, Dr. Rukhsana Aslam. The objective of the training is to allow the participants to explore new perspectives to journalism and examine peace journalism concepts and also consider diversity in media and proactive versus reactive reporting styles. The Suva workshop will be followed by one in Nadi from the 12 to 14 September for reporters, senior journalists, editors and freelance media practitioners based in the Western division. Valuing Voices is an innovative arts-in-development project, designed to support human rights advocacy in relation to Fiji’s international commitments to media independence focusing on human rights defenders of women and children and supported by Media Industries Development Authority. The project aims to create greater breadth of voice in society through commercial and digital media and creative arts.
