International Youth Day in Azerbaijan
On August 12 a meeting on the occasion of the International Youth Day, focusing in 2013 on “Youth Migration: Moving Development Forward”, took place at the UN Office in Baku and brought together representatives of youth NGOs, experts from the ILO, the United Nations Department of Public Information and the International Organization for Migration.

Opening remarks to the event were made by the United Nations Department of Public Information Representative in Azerbaijan, Envera Selimovic.
Acting Head of the International Organization for Migration Sarhan Aktoprak focused on main global trends of youth migration and reasons for migration flows, especially economic factors and employment.
ILO National Coordinator in Azerbaijan Yashar Hamzayev briefed on Azerbaijan’s youth employment referring to the results of the workforce survey conducted by the State Statistics Committee on the basis of the ILO methodology in 2012 and the data provided by the State Employment Service.
In his presentation he highlighted the ILO’s contribution to resolving youth problems, including the International Labour Organization’s recommendations concerning active measures on the labour market. Within the framework of its new project Partnerships for Youth Employment in the CIS the ILO will provide technical assistance to Azerbaijan’s State Employment Service and vocational education centres in Baku and Geokchai.
Yashar Hamzayev also stressed the need for promoting social dialogue and creating a permanent tripartite body at the national level to pursue social and labour issues related policy, including youth employment. Youth organizations demonstrated their interest in the presentation requesting the ILO to hold meetings on youth employment problems.
